The Formation Learning Pillar of our Cosmetology Program
The Formations phase is where students begin transforming foundational knowledge into real, repeatable cosmetology skills. After learning core concepts in the Foundations phase, students continue to progress into more hands-on, skill-focused stage of their training.
This phase is designed to help students build confidence, develop consistency, and begin working more independently as they prepare for real client services.
What Is Formations?
Formations: SHAPE
The Formations pillar is where the future professional begins to shape their skills into more technically sound and refined abilities. At this stage, students strengthen precision, efficiency and confidence while advancing their technical understanding. Skills become more intentional, controlled and professionally executed.
Hands-On Practice and Instructor Feedback
The Formation phase is heavily focused on hands-on training
Students practice using:
- Mannequins
- Classmates and models
- Structured service simulations
Instructors provide continuous, individualized feedback, helping students:
- Correct mistakes early
- Improve technique faster
- Build confidence through guidance
This feedback loop is essential for developing strong, reliable skills.
Why the Formation Phase Matters
The Formation phase is where students begin to feel like they are truly learning the craft.
Without this stage, students may:
- Lack confidence when working with clients
- Struggle with consistency
- Feel unprepared for real-world expectations
By focusing on repetition, feedback, and skill refinement, this phase ensures students are ready for the next level.
After completing the Formation phase, students move into the Create phase, where they begin working with real clients in a supervised student salon.
What Comes Next After Formation?
The transition into CREATE marks a major step forward, as students begin applying their skills in real-world situations.
